BATESVILLE, ARKANSAS - August 26, 2021 - LaCroix Precision Optics is pleased to announce Kevin Weaver and Robert Brockway as the first apprentices in their inaugural Optics Manufacturing Technician Apprenticeship.
The objective of this program is to engage employees with the overall understanding of the LaCroix Precision Optics manufacturing processes. The program goals are to transfer institutional knowledge, develop future skilled leaders, and expose apprentices to new and advanced optics manufacturing technologies.
The program will consist of on-the-job training combined with 144 hours of related instruction classes from Monroe Community College (online) and the University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville (UACCB). We are working with The Arkansas Office of Skills Development, Arkansas Department of Labor, and Arkansas Department of Commerce to ensure this program meets all requirements, and to pursue grant opportunities. The program is competency-based, with the expected completion within 2-4 years. On July 27, 2021, the apprenticeship selection team chose Kevin Weaver and Robert Brockway as the first two apprentices in the program.
Kevin Weaver started in November 1996 through a temporary agency and became full-time in March 1998. He has worked in cleaning, cement/matching, and centering. Kevin became the centering lead person in August 2009. "I'm so honored to be one of the first to be selected to the apprenticeship program. Especially amongst all the deserving applicants," said Kevin Weaver. "I'm ready to start this program and further my optical knowledge."
Robert Brockway started in March 2005 through a temporary agency and became full-time in July 2006. He has worked in CNC (grinding, polishing, beveling, phase shifting) and plano. He has attended UACCB class in Industrial Technology and his "hobby" agriculture. " I have been blessed to be a part of the LaCroix Precision Optics family for the past 16 years. Now I have the honor and privilege of being selected to take part in the apprenticeship program," said Robert Brockway. "I am excited about furthering my career here and look forward to the future as we expand and grow the company."
